We Care
In the weeks following a significant death, after all the meals have been delivered and the sympathy cards start to wane, a person who is grieving needs more sustaining care and encouragement. Along with important dates, such as anniversaries and birthdays, that need to be recognized during the first year of a person’s loss, here is a strategic plan for your church to be empowered to say and prove, “we care!”
A strategic plan
The weeks following the funeral:
Week 3: Deliver the book Silverlining: A Life Application Journey Through The Dynamics of Grief by Dr. T. David Willets (cost per book at a 15% discount - $11.00)
Week 6: Begin the monthly articles from “Grieve Well – Live Well” via email or postal mail or personal delivery. (see attachment)
Week 10: “Love Bomb Week”. Multiple daily phone calls, notes and personal visits every day of this week.
Week 13: Encourage the grieving person to enroll in the six-week workshop of Silverlining. This workshop could be facilitated semi-annually by a member of the Small Group.
Week 36: Host a luncheon or dinner for all those who have experienced the death of a loved one within the past year. This could be a church-wide event. Dr. T. David Willets could be the speaker for such an event.
Week 51: Leading to the date of the loved one’s death, “Love Bomb Week” should be repeated. (see Week 10)

Wednesday evening

Grief training for Small Groups leadership (45 minutes) by Dr. Willets

Dr. Willets speaks in a church-wide service (30 minutes)
Thursday

Dr. Willets meets with all Ministerial Staff for training in “Understanding The Depth of Grief and the Need For a Healthy Grief Ministry” (45 minutes)
Saturday

“Looking For My Silverlining”: An overview of the six-week Silverlining workshop. Six 30-minute sessions led by Dr. Willets

Target participants: Small Group leadership, church ministerial staff and potential Silverlining Small Group Collection facilitators.
